Wildfires are currently burning out of control around the world. The images coming out of the Amazon are terrifying, but it’s not alone. Forest fires are also burning in Indonesia putting the lives of people and vulnerable wildlife at immediate risk, whilst record high temperatures also fueled fires across the Arctic as well as Greece this northern summer.
WWF has set up an emergency wildfire fund to respond to the worst of these fires but we urgently need your support. Please, make your lifesaving donation now.
As fires continue to rage in the Amazon rainforest, Indonesia is also experiencing its worst annual fire season since 2015 and cloaking communities in a smoky haze. Widespread fire is threatening Sebangau National Park, causing us much concern for local communities living around the Park and for the 6,000 critically endangered orangutans that live there. As some of the last orangutans in the world, it’s desperately important that we do everything possible to protect them.
This is an absolute emergency. The Amazon holds upward of 140 billion metric tons of carbon, and it’s been burning for weeks. Smoke has spread across Brazil and there are reports of blackened skies in São Paulo. In Indonesia, the lives of elephants and critically endangered orangutans are at risk from the continuing flames. Please, make your urgent donation today to help fight these fires before more damage is done.
