The elegant snow leopard is one of the world’s most elusive cats. They are powerful, captivating and yet incredibly vulnerable.
As few as 4,000 snow leopards remain in the wild and sadly, an average of 4 are still killed each week for the illegal wildlife trade.
Sparsely distributed across 12 countries in central Asia, it's usually found in high, rugged mountain landscapes. But since the 1990’s, snow leopard numbers have declined by at least 20%. Poaching, damage to their habitat and conflict with people are all threats that snow leopards face. As human settlements grow and wild prey declines, snow leopards are taking livestock, causing farmers to retaliate by killing snow leopards to protect their livelihoods.
Your adoption will help WWF work with governments and local communities to prevent the illegal trade in snow leopards and their body parts, reduce conflict with local people and protect snow leopard habitats.
Adopt today, and we'll take you on a journey to learn more about snow leopards through our regular updates - exclusive only to our monthly adopters. We'll also keep you up to date on how your monthly gifts are helping to secure a brighter future for snow leopards.
