You are here:
The magnificent orangutan is not so different from us. In fact, you share almost 97% of your genetic sequence with the orangutan.
Once abundant in the forests of Borneo, these mighty apes are now under threat of extinction. Their forest homes are being lost due to deforestation and unsustainable logging. In the last 40 years, 35% of Borneo's rainforest has been cleared to feed demand for paper, timber and palm oil products, and now orangutan numbers are dwindling.
Orangutans in Borneo are now critically endangered.
They are clinging to survival, and it's our duty to protect the trees in which they sleep and eat before we lose them forever. By adopting an orangutan, you'll help protect orangutans in the wild, with conservation efforts focused on the protection and restoration of the habitats that are vital for their survival.
Adopt today, and we'll take you on a journey to learn more about orangutans through our regular updates - exclusive only to our monthly adopters. We'll also keep you up to date on how your monthly gifts are helping to secure a brighter future for orangutans.
